About Aseto, Rewards on Rent

Rent takes a significant portion of your income every month and, in return, offers very little value beyond a place to live. I worked on Aseto to rethink that experience by bringing rent payments and rewards into a single platform. The goal was to reduce friction, give renters more visibility and control over their payments, and transform renting into a smarter, more rewarding experience rather than just a recurring expense.

Overview

In 2026, Aseto will be introduced on the IOS app store, which let's user pay rent and earn rewards in return.

As a product designer, I defined and led 2 workstreams, driving the 0 to 1 design of rewards on rent platform. I also established the strategy and foundation.

Constraints

We interviewed 25+ renters and real estate professionals in Dubai to understand how rent payments are managed today. These conversations revealed that tenants deal with fragmented systems and repetitive manual steps, while property stakeholders have limited visibility into tenant engagement beyond the initial lease period.

Designing for Aseto came with significant regulatory and compliance challenges that shaped many of our design decisions. Operating in a highly regulated space meant the experience had to balance trust, security, and legal accuracy while still feeling simple and approachable for users. Our team had to design carefully around these constraints from day one.

Constellation of Constraints

Identity verification and regulatory checks meant multiple steps and documents. Users worried about making mistakes, delays, or being rejected. Even small errors (typos, missing info) could block progress, creating stress and frustration.

Sensitive financial data handling required explicit consent and minimal data exposure, which sometimes made flows feel restrictive or opaque. Users struggled to understand what information was needed, why it was required, and what would happen next.

Payments and registrations depended on banks, utilities, and Ejari. Users feared delays or failures outside their control, and lacked guidance on how to resolve issues. Edge cases (failed payments, system errors) created anxiety and reduced trust in the platform.

Snapshot

Most of Dubai's population pays rent through either cheques or bank transfers + direct debits, but high rental costs remain a major challenge, and tenants get no benefits in return.

It isn't eveyday that you get to work with such platforms. This is highly technical and a fast paced project, that involved many product areas and external stakeholders. As this was an unprecedented territory for us, our team had to create an entirely new UX patterns, reusable UI componenets, set typography, and create interaction models from the ground up.
